Jan. 3, 2006: From Jan. 15 – Jan 29 I will be in Washington DC with a project we call Shine the Light; a call to witness in the time of war. Every day I will join a procession from one of the public or private institutions that support the American military presence in Iraq. The processions will conclude at the White House where there will be a prayer service. In addition to the two hour daily walk there will be opportunities to meet legislative staff and inform or encourage one another as we seek to understand the nature of all phases of the conflicts in Iraq both the public uniformed side and the shadowy side. We expect groups from churches, universities and other community groups to join our organizing team as they are able to do so.

I look forward to this event because it is a way to Shine the Light on all the expressions of terror, detention and abuse and to remember our special friends, the four CPTers who continue to be held by a group that we know little about. In this New Year we are concerned that silence around forces of violence creates fresh opportunities for destruction. We also know that silence in the presence of God renews our energy and vision. You may send questions and suggestions to me or contact the project at the addresses below. If you choose to join us, we can help facilitate your housing or other matters.
